Works in Progress

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

The week in photos from New Buffalo High School and Middle School art classes.

High School:

ART III practiced observational life drawing from their peers modeling for the group. After the life study exercises, they transitioned to the final paper where they continued to overlap their drawings varying the line quality, scale, perspective, and orientation of the paper.

The final stages of the artwork include layering in color with mixed media and continuing to abstract the figure based on our discussions of Abstract Art and the Cubist movement.

We end every class with an art critique to access where they are going with their works in progress.

Middle School:

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes are in the beginning instructional stages of their next units. Since the middle school exploratory classes meet for roughly 35 minutes a day, the studio time is cut a little short with transition times between attendance, opening agenda instructions, distribution of supplies, and relocation to the outdoor classroom. So stay tuned for more photos to come next week with non-objective watercolor paintings in 6th grade, radial design batik paintings in 7th grade, and optical illusion paintings in 8th grade!

Here are some happy 6th graders to put a smile on your face as they are showing off their wet-into-wet watercolor sketches using different color combinations!
