The Week in Photos from New Buffalo Art Dept.

It seems as if this school year has been flying by! Today marks the last day of 2nd Trimester in the 2021-2022 school year. I'd like to share an overview of the final projects in all classes as much of this work is either being held for upcoming art shows or was already returned to students to take home.

The last week of Art in my high school classes involved students researching and developing independent projects that they presented with artist statements along with taking the final exam. Art media varied and students enjoyed being able to demonstrate their skills by experimenting in the subject of their choice.

Final HS Independent Projects in Art I and Drawing & Painting:

High school ceramic pieces were completed from the last kiln firing of the figurative sculpture unit in Art I. Some students chose to glaze their projects while others painted them or kept as bisqueware.

Middle School students finished up their final artworks with watercolor paintings, pen & ink drawings, and cut paper designs.

6th Grade: Notan Designs

7th Grade: Sweet Tooth Paintings

8th Grade: Lost and Found Line Designs

Middle School "Itty Bitty" ceramic miniatures were completed and put out on display! Each student had half a pound of clay to build tiny sculptures that were hollowed out, bisque fired, and painted.

It's always bittersweet at the end of the trimester but I am looking forward to some warmer weather so that my 3rd trimester students can create artwork outside this spring. Kudos to my 2nd Trimester artists! Keep being AMAZING.
